Tips For Moving Your Kitchen

Here is are a few tips for moving your kitchen. According to many movers, packing up your kitchen for relocation is no easy task! With all those small items in the drawers, the heavy appliances and all the pots and pans, there is a lot to consider when moving a kitchen. What most professional movers do is to take things step by step.

  • Start by sorting everything

You may not take everything with you when you relocate. Be sure to start sorting out the items in your kitchen and to decide what you wish to take, what you wish to leave and what needs to be discarded. For instance, you may not take all your appliances and may need to discard some of the older items in your kitchen.  One of the best tips for moving your kitchen is to go through each storage unit in the cupboard and always be exceptionally selective about what you need to take.

  • Pack up the essentials box

This means packing up a separate box of items that you will need within the last couple of days in your current home and the first couple of days in the new home. Include dishes for everyone in the family, food items, cutlery, essential appliances, dish cloth, cleaning fluid and anything else you may need to prepare a fast meal.

  • Get the proper packing materials

According to many moving companies, the right packing materials are essential to successfully packing up any part of your home. Purchase or collect items such as large boxes to pack up the lighter items, medium boxes for the heavier items and heavy duty boxes with double walls for packing fragile items. You will also need plenty of bubblewrap to protect anything particularly fragile and perhaps some cell kits that will come in handy when packing stemware, glasses and bottles. Make sure that the cell kits fit your boxes. Don’t forget the sticky tape, markets and labels to make sure that you can find everything after packing up.

  • Alert your movers about heavy items

If you are taking your appliances, be sure to let your movers know so that they can be prepared for it. Full service movers will provide proper packing so you need not worry about that. However, they will need to know any specifics about the items (Eg: some items may need disassembly, etc.) for better organization.

Pack the non-essential items separately

Anything you don’t need until after you have settled in the new home can be packed up separately and securely for the move. These may include the good china, silverware, stemware, plates, serving dishes and cookbooks among many other items.
