Tips for Proper Storage
Tips For Proper Storage
If you think that packing your items carefully is enough to guarantee their safety during a move, then you are in for a surprise. According to many movers, there is a high possibility that even well-packed items may topple over, move about and get damaged in the truck during a move. That is why we created these Tips For Proper Storage. Moving companies also suggest proper stacking to ensure easier unloading once they have reached their destination. The best solution for the problem is to stack your belongings with extra care to prevent any problems during the drive.
For starters, sort out your items and mark the heavier items first. These will need to go in the truck first to stabilize the truck for the ride. Ask any moving company and they will tell you that the best place to place heavier items in the truck is at the front of the unit to allow for easier unloading. Of course, be sure to ask about the truck size to make sure that you have adequate space for all your belongings.
The best way to pack your belongings is to take a quarter of the truck at a time. Start stacking your belongings from the door to the ceiling of the truck with no space in between. Your movers may employ rope or tie-down rings to secure each quarter so that they don’t move about during the drive.
Heavy items such as large cabinets, heavy appliances, refrigerators and bureaus are best placed against the front wall of the moving truck. Be sure to invest in protective covers for mattresses and sofas to prevent any scraping and cuts. Ask your movers if they provide the covers or purchase them before the moves. Lighter items such as bookcases, chairs and tables can be placed in the back of the truck.
Large, flat items such as mirrors, box springs, table tops or mattresses will have to be tied upright against the walls of the truck to prevent them from tipping over and causing havoc during the drive. Mirrors and other breakable items can be wrapped with protective pads or you can ask your movers to pack them in mirror cartons for added safety. Lighter boxes can be stacked on top of heavier ones and anything small and valuable ought to be handled personally by you.
