Tips For Protecting Furniture When Moving
Relocation poses many challenges and the possibility of damaging your belongings is definitely on the top of the list. If you plan on taking your furniture to use at the new home, it is imperative that you take the necessary measures to protect them from any harm during the move. At Willie’s Transfer, we have plenty of experience with moving furniture of all sorts and we have tips for protecting furniture when moving.
For starters, any soft parts on your furniture will need to be wrapped up to prevent scratches and other damages. Cushions and padded parts are particularly vulnerable to scratching by other items and will need to be covered to protect them. This can be done with heavy blankets, plastic sheets or bubble wrap. As for legs and polished parts, they will also need to be covered up.
Furniture with parts that slide out such as drawers are at risk of sliding open in the drive and being damaged. One of the best tips for protecting furniture when moving is to prevent drawers from sliding open is to tape the drawers shut or the tie them up. If you are using tape, be sure to cover up the item completely with plastic to prevent adhesive marks from ruining the finish.
Any house is bound to have large pieces of furniture such as beds and tables. These are easily transported when disassembled before the move. This will make sure that they are easier to get through doors while also saving space inside the truck. Be sure to wrap up the parts to prevent them from getting damaged in the drive. However, many movers recommend that you ask for a professional’s help when disassembling and reassembling them.
If you have large items that cannot be disassembled, be sure to secure them inside the moving truck with cords, ropes or bungees to make sure that they don’t scratch other items or fall over. You can use pillows and sofa cushions as spacers to keep furniture from touching each other during the move. Any mattresses and upholstery will need to be wrapped to prevent tears, scratches and dirt. Many West Palm Beach moving companies recommend that you pack the truck tightly, allowing little space between the items as shifting and sliding during the move may cause damages.
