Things To Consider Before Your Move

The obvious parts of a move such as finding good movers, packing and filling out the paperwork for change of address are often considered priorities. However, there is much more involved in an average relocation. Which is way we put together some things to consider before your move. Quite a few things tend to go unnoticed or left to the last minute. Here are some important things to keep in mind on your next move,

  • Keep your documents organized and ready to go

There have been plenty of instances where documents have gotten lost or misplaced during a move. This is because of the simple fact that documents are often overlooked and often left to the last minute. Things to consider before your move such as important medical records, bank documents, veterinary records and a range of other documents may get lost while moving unless you organize them to be properly packaged or stored.

  • Return all rentals

If you have unreturned library books, rented tools (which may have been of use for packing) or any DVD’s will have to be returned before the move as you will most probably forget them during the last minute rush.

  • Don’t forget anything you need to collect

If you have taken any clothes or other items to the cleaners’ or loaned something important to your neighbors, it is best to collect them as early as possible to make sure that you don’t leave them behind. Be sure to add these items to your checklist well before the relocation.

  • Bills and cancellations

Believe it or not, bills are quite often forgotten in the heat of relocation. If you are already well organized on keeping track of what’s due and what needs to be paid, this is highly unlikely to be overlooked. If not, be sure to note them down and to pay them well before moving day. Don’t forget to cancel all or selected utilities as per your arrangement with the next owners.

  • Prepare a box of essentials

The last thing you need is to have to hunt through a dozen boxes just to find your toothbrush on your first day at the new house. Be sure to pack a box of toothbrushes and toothpaste, towels and a set of clothes for your family members to allow them to get dressed and ready without much of a hassle.

It is very important to make arrangements to get back to your life right after the move to prevent having to live out of cardboard boxes for weeks until every last thing is unpacked. It is very easy to forget minor yet important things unless they go in your checklist. Therefore, be sure to add these items to help make your transition, a smoother one.
