Tips For Packing Electronics

The electronics in your home make up an important portion of your belongings. This is why movers always recommend that you give extra attention to properly pack and transport them during relocation. So we created these Tips For Packing Electronics.

Moving companies encourage homeowners to be prepared with the manufacturers’ guides or user manuals for their electronics during the packing stage. If you prepare early, you will have plenty of time to find replacements online for lost manuals. These will provide any specific instructions for moving certain items so that they won’t get damaged or mixed-up during the drive.

If any item has separate parts then it is advised that you disassemble them so that the different parts don’t come off and get damaged in the truck. For instance, removable component such as DVDs in media players and toner cartridges in printers are best packed separately to prevent damage. If you ask any moving company, they will tell you to bag them or box them separately with a label to easily identify them later.

As for packing materials, nothing beats the original box. However, most houses are not likely to have these lying about as the equipment was probably bought years ago. A great option would be to look for boxes that are specially made for electronics. If you have chosen a full service mover, you may be able to obtain them directly from the company. If not, you can turn to the manufacturer and they will provide you with return kits at little or zero cost. If you can’t find these, you can opt for double-walled boxes in a size slightly larger than the item you plan to move. You will also need to invest in bubblewrap and packing peanuts for added safety.

Cables are an unavoidable part of any electronic item packing assignment. Since you are bound to have a lot of them lying about, the best choice would be to separate them and to label each. You can use tape and labels to make sure that you won’t lose any important cables during the move. You can also use twist ties and Ziploc bags to package each item’s cables separately and to tape it to the item or toss it into a separate box reserved for cables.

An important thing to keep in mind is to be aware of the transportation conditions. For instance, some items may be sensitive to high heats. Therefore, be sure to check as early on as possible and to let your movers know so that they can prepare with the necessary measures.
