What is Backloading?

If you have moved or are planning relocation, there is a possibility that you may have heard the phrase ‘backloading’. Backloading is a method that allows moving companies to save time and increase profits while also allowing customers to save money. There are plenty of movers who offer backloading as a part of their services and if the timing is right, customers can take advantage of the opportunity.

So how exactly does backloading work? When a moving company sends a truck (or several trucks) with belongings from one place to another, it is quite normal for the truck to return empty. Some movers offer their customers the chance to take advantage of the empty returning truck to transport their belongings. In many cases, customers are only required to pay for the space that their belongings would take up in the moving truck and the transportation cost of going in one direction. Since the movers won’t have to drive an empty truck in one direction and the customers don’t necessarily have to pay for the truck to return to their office, backloading is definitely a win-win situation for both parties.

However, it is important to keep in mind that backloading is not suitable for everyone and every moving situation. The process involves in the sharing of the space inside a moving truck with another customer. Many clients, especially those with valuables among their belongings, might not find the prospect too attractive while others, who wish to relocate on a budget, would consider it a good deal. Of course, you will have to be flexible about the time and date of the move.

For those who wish to transport valuable belongings or seek privacy, a full service mover would be a better option. However, there is no denying that backloading is definitely an economic option. If you are employing a moving company that handles backloading assignments on a regular basis, you can be assured that your belongings would receive all the attention and care of a full service move. Backloading is also a great choice if you are moving long distance as the savings will be quite significant.
