Where is Everyone Moving?
A recent poll conducted sheds some interesting light on the moving industry with regards to where American citizens are moving to; and why… This brief article, Where is Everyone Moving?, will give you an inside glimpse into the results, and perhaps may give you a good idea of where you may want to consider planning your next relocation to!
According to the 2013 Census Bureau, the United States saw a boom in growth in regards to more people leaving the suburbs and opting for life in more metropolitan areas of the country. In fact, in 2013 alone 2.3 million more people had moved into the cities averaging over 269.9 million people living in metro areas to date. It seems that this recent inflation has been due in large part to the booming economy and the trend has been namely popular among baby-boomers (returning to their roots) as well as young professionals who are just starting out.
In terms of “natural increase” (by way of birth and not net migration) the largest cities who saw an abundant increase in growth were the cities: Washington, DC and Provo-Orem, Utah. Houston, TX, however had the largest net increase with a whopping 138,000 people moving in between 2012 and 2013. One other determining factor in the loss of migration to the suburbs is that many young people are in turn delaying life events that lead them to the suburbs in the first place, such as getting married and having children of their own. Additional metro areas that saw significant growth were: Philadelphia, PA, New Orleans, LA, Fargo, ND, Odessa, TX, and The Villages, FL .
It’s quite interesting to see such a sudden spark of movement in regards to those people who are choosing to pack up and leave the comfort of the suburbs for a more active lifestyle in the city. It will certainly be interesting to see what 2014 brings us!
